Thumbdrive 1 Union Star Lounge – Pilot – May 23, 2020. Union Star Lounge represents Union Start Lodge #320 effort to “Salute the HF-L Class of 2020.” It aired live at 7:30pm on Saturday nights from May 30, 2020 through June 27, 2020, which was the originally scheduled graduation weekend. Union Star Lodge determined it would host this remote broadcast in a way which as many local groups and organization could honor the HF-L Class of 2020. This was a practice run to test the Zoom platform as a broadcasting medium, featuring Worshipful Master Andy Allan and Junior Warden Jacob Anderson as well as Senior Master of Ceremonies Chris Carosa. The test showed the audio from a screen shared video did not transmit (which is why you hear silence during the “Hamburger Dreams” video. YouTube

Thumbdrive 4 Union Star Lounge – Episode #3 – June 13, 2020. Show host WM Andy Allan first spoke with Jeff Taccetta, Co-Advisor of the HF-L Class of 2020. He announced a private “stage walk” diploma presentation will be held all day Thursday and Friday (June 18 and 19), with an outdoor ceremony scheduled to take place at James Dollard Athletic Field on July 9th (rain date July 10th). Next, the host handed the reins of the show over to HF-L Band Director Mark Borden and HF-L Choir Director Ken Goold. The two musically minded teachers proceeded to present an extended show with plenty of actual student performances both in audio and video form. They even provided a sneak peak to Bye Bye Birdie, which was intended to be presented as 2021’s musical production (after being canceled in 2020 because of COVID-19). SMC Chris Carosa serves as Technical Director. The show was broadcast through Facebook and YouTube through the virtual studio vMix platform. This show had a record number of viewers. vMix
Thumbdrive 5 Union Star Lounge – Episode #4 – June 20, 2020.  Show host WM Andy Allan first reminded viewers of the private “stage walk” diploma presentation that was held all day Thursday and Friday (June 18 and 19), and the outdoor ceremony scheduled to take place at James Dollard Athletic Field on July 9th (rain date July 10th). Next up was Linda Goodrum, President-Elect of the Mendon/Honeoye Falls Rotary Club. She told everyone of the very special online Interact Club Induction ceremony, hosted by Channel 13’s Don Alhart. She also described some of the projects Rotary has been working on throughout this pandemic. The highlight of the show was “A School Day in the Lockdown Life.” AP English and Drama teacher Andrea Borrelli showed us what it was like for teachers and students during this period of remote learning. She showcased some of the same videos she used to teach her students. The segment ended with a montage of seniors introducing themselves, giving the audience a sneak peek at what to expect next week. Thumbdrive 6 Union Star Lounge – Episode #5 – June 27, 2020. With WM Andy Allan hosting, the final broadcast of Union Star Lounge last Saturday night at 7:30 pm broke all sorts of records. Promoted as a “Graduation Party,” it had the greatest number of viewers, comments, and engagement. In total, its reach approached 1,000. The 60-minute show, broadcast live on the Sentinel’s Facebook page and YouTube Channel, was hosted by Honeoye Falls’ Union Star Lodge #320 of Free and Accepted Masons and was led by HF-L Teachers Ken Goold, Mark Borden, and Andrea Borrelli. It featured taped versions of the formal student speeches as well as impromptu tributes from other teachers, parents, and students. Goold, Borden, and Borrelli did a masterful job keeping the hour lively with their joyful banter. They expertly navigated the rocky shoals of live streaming as two of the four hosts lost their connection. The audience hardly noticed. The audience delighted in watching HF-L Class of 2020 Valedictorian Casey Walike, Salutatorian Philip Ackerman, and Class President Riley Wall present their respective speeches. They’ll have an opportunity to perform them again live at the July 9th outdoor ceremony. The one-hour “Graduation Party” ended with each of the hosts offering their toast to the HF-L Class of 2020. At the very end, Andy Allan introduced a big surprise. For the next 90 minutes, there was a special retirement tribute to Mark Borden hosted by Ken Goold, Emily Borden, Amanda Borden, and Andrew Hargrave. This send-off featured songs, speeches, and even a little comedy from past students and coworkers. While it wasn’t the in-person party he had originally planned, Mr. Borden seemed genuinely grateful for the surprise and shared personal stories about all those who offered their own memories. SMC Chris Carosa serves as Technical Director. The show was broadcast through Facebook and YouTube through the virtual studio vMix platform. This show again had a record number of viewers. vMix
